Polly's patented (not really) 'Magic Tin Foil Trick!'
Fancy a useful tip for travelling with kids? It's your lucky day...
Going on holiday with your little ones is an exciting time filled with family fun and adventure, but it can also bring about its own set of challenges. The disruption to their sleep schedule is one of those obstacles to overcome. We know, we've been there, this struggle is real! Especially when that early morning sun is wreaking havoc and waking them up at an ungodly hour.
Thankfully we've got a simple and effective tip for you that might stop you being woken at the crack of dawn every single day so you can get some much needed R&R! Fear not for help is here, in the form of tin foil and water. Yes, you read that right.
How do I get the tin foil to stick to the window?
All you need is a roll of tin foil, a spray bottle filled with water, and a window. Just spray some water on the window, roll out the tin foil directly over the water, and voila! In no time at all, you've created complete blackout, allowing your little one to sleep soundly through the morning, even when the sun is shining brightly overhead. It will also help them to settle down at night on those long summer evenings.
The beauty of this trick is that it works for windows of all shapes and sizes. So, whether you're dealing with a square window or a quirky oval one, you can rest assured that you'll be able to create a dark, cosy environment for your little one.
Is complete black-out bad for sleep patterns?
Of course, blocking out all natural light completely may not always be the best option for healthy sleep patterns. But the need for natural light applies to when you want the day to begin, and there is plenty of evidence that complete darkness through the hours of sleep is beneficial for all sorts of reasons... it helps you to stay asleep, enables a deeper sleep, and it's good for the body's metabolism too. The additional morning darkness is highly unlikely to cause any significant change to sleep patterns whilst you are away on holiday, and in any case it's something that you can easily overcome this by going outside into the natural daylight when it's time to get up. So for those occasions when you need to get some extra shut-eye in the morning, this trick can be a real lifesaver.
Is it difficult to get off the window afterwards?
It’s easy-peasy to peel off the next morning or at the end of your stay, leaving no damage whatsoever, and you can easily pack it up and use it again on your next trip. Plus, it's an extremely cheap and cost-effective solution compared to purchasing expensive blackout curtains.
We hope you find this tip useful, and we'd love to hear your thoughts if you give it a try. Don't let the early morning sun ruin your holiday - use this simple and effective solution to ensure your little one (and you!) gets the rest they need.
